Because it doesn’t feel good when you hear about an infant being killed on the news. It matters because an infant is murdered every two seconds on average and that makes me sick. Because what it comes down to is when the mother thinks her child is a person. You’re making the choice that that person’s life is meaningless, and you don’t get to make that choice for them. Every line you try to draw falls apart because someone wants an abortion after that line. At birth? Well, some people want it to be okay for an abortion to happen up to five minutes after birth so that’s off the table. At consciousness? There’s no way to know when that is. At brain waves? Most abortions happen after that. And where do you draw the line? At what point do you move from one stage to the next? At a fully formed heart? Well, a lot of abortions happen after that. If she will literally die, or be seriously injured if she has the baby it can be allowed. Then there are the extreme cases where yeah fine. And the most cases would be every pregnancy that goes through, and it would be wrong to get an abortion at nine months just because you don’t want it.
